MAAM – Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove

The MAAM was founded in 2012 on the eastern outskirts of Rome in a former Fiorucci sausage factory occupied by the humanitarian aid organization Blocchi Precari Metropolitani in 2009 to provide housing for homeless Italian families and immigrants.

The site was renamed “ Metropoliz_città meticcia ” to reflect the different nationalities of its residents while conveying the idea of a future city that can defend and strengthen the rights of its residents. The residents of this “città meticcia” were included in the museum project by anthropologist and curator Giorgio de Finis, who made the documentary Space Metropoliz together with Fabrizio Boni in 2011.
