Melani Budianta (Professor of Literature, University of Indonesia) delivered a public lecture “Lumbung Budaya Sepanjang Gang” (Along the paths of our cultural barns) organised by the Jakarta Arts Council on November 10, 2020. Through her elaborative exploration on the recent works of Indonesian literature, Budianta discussed the public discourse on the meaning of resilience that is formed and sustained by a powerful environment and the rich networks of ‘cultural barns’ in the communities during the pandemic. At the same time, it provides critical reflection on how to dismantle a hierarchy of social relations invisible in independent cultural organizing and corrupt local bureaucracies. The lecture provides contributions to the theorization of connections, cooperation, volunteering culture, and networks within Indonesia context. Budianta’s lecture paper (in Bahasa Indonesia) can be accessed from https://dkj.or.id/pidato-kebudayaan/pidato-kebudayaan-2020-lumbung-budaya-di-sepanjang-gang/. You can watch her lecture below:
